University of Lahore

Prof. Dr. Zaid Mahmood

Head, Department of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences

Starting with the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful.

I would like to welcome you all to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Lahore (UOL). The Department of Chemistry has started in late 2016 and is doing extremely well by national and international standards. In addition to typical courses such as organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, we are also offering specialization and research opportunities in modern disciplines of chemistry, e.g. computational, and nano-chemistry. At present, we have hundreds of students pursuing their B.S., M.Sc., and M.Phil. in chemistry, and all these programs are recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. We have highly skilled, talented, and learned faculty who have completed their education with distinctions at prestigious national and international institutes. Moreover, our faculty have received several awards and incentives for their research work. The UOL is heavily investing in developing laboratories of our department to meet the needs of modern day learning, and ground-breaking research. I would like to take this opportunity to write few words on chemistry, i.e. considered the central science because everything is made up of chemicals, and many things we observe in our daily life are the results of chemical reactions. Students willing to become environmentalists, nutritionists, pharmacists, forensic and quality control experts, and (of course) chemists all study chemistry. I would like to mention here that chemistry-related jobs are abundant and high-paying, and the importance of chemistry will not be diminished over time, so it will remain a promising career path forever. Our graduates will be able to find great careers in industry, academia and beyond. I hope your time with us will be both enjoyable and rewarding.
